La Pulga Netted Stunning Last-Minute Winning Freekick

After signing for former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham’s Inter Miami, all eyes were on Lionel Messi’s highly-anticipated debut and matches for the club, and La Pulga made sure he did not disappoint his spectators in his first two games for his new club.

Messi’s Inter Miami debut came in the opening match of Group J of Leagues Cup, when his team hosted Liga MX’s Cruz Azul in DRV PNK Stadium. La Pulga came into the game as a second-half substitute in the 54th minute of the match and almost had his debut spoiled when Uriel Antuna from the visiting team cancelled out Robert Taylor’s opening-half goal 11 minutes after Messi came on.

Then, in the dying moments of the match, La Pulga showed the world why he is arguably the best player ever to grace the game of football, having converted a freekick winner and earned all three points in this group fixture for his new club. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star man’s stunning last-minute winning goal immediately broke the internet and had even left Inter Miami’s co-owner David Beckham in tears.

La Pulga’s First-Half Brace Earned Inter Miami’s Second Win in Leagues Cup

Messi and his fans did not have to wait long to witness his full debut for Inter Miami. Just yesterday, the 36-year-old La Pulga welcomed his first start for the MLS club when fellow American outfit Atlanta United FC visited DRV PNK Stadium, and La Pulga picked up where he left off to register another goal as an Inter Miami player in the eighth minute. The visiting team’s defensive line was caught off-guard, allowing another new Inter Miami signing Sergio Busquets to find his former Barcelona teammate Messi with a long pass. La Pulga then broke away and hit a shot that bounced off the post, before he followed up with another shot into the empty net.

Messi needed only 14 more minutes to score the second goal of his first-half brace, when he tore the Atlanta United FC’s defence apart, before swiping a pass to Robert Taylor at the left flank, who then fed a delicious cross into the penalty box for Messi to score. The Finish player then turned to become a scorer a minute before half time, when he smashed a shot into the top right corner from a difficult angle.

The World Cup-winning captain in Qatar 2022 Messi gave one more contribution in the next 45 minutes, before he gave way to Robbie Robinson 12 minutes before time. A poorly-executed built-up play from the visiting team saw a mistimed pass landed perfectly for La Pulga to lead a counter-attack, in which he attracted three defenders during the process. Messi dribbled towards the opposing goal, followed by setting up Taylor to complete his brace. This 4-0 win meant Inter Miami stays perfect in this season’s Leagues Cup.
